Kirrilee Releases Emotional New Single “Happy” — A Love Letter to Artists Letting Go of a Dream
EMBARGO TO THE 29TH OF MAY
By that headline, you might be worried. But don’t worry; she’s not going anywhere! Melbourne-based pop artist Kirrilee returns on the 29th of May with Happy; an emotionally charged new single exploring the quiet grief of watching someone close to you walk away from the thing they once loved most.
Written after a deeply personal conversation with a close friend who decided to leave music behind after more than a decade, Happy captures the complicated feeling of mourning not only a person’s dream, but the future you imagined alongside them.
“I’d always assumed we’d be doing music until we were 99 years old,” Kirrilee explains. “One day, he told me he quit. The passion just wasn’t enough anymore. After he told me, I went and sat under a tree at the park and cried a little. I just felt so much sadness for the loss of his passion, and also the loss of that fun and perhaps naïve little vision. Under that tree—that’s where I wrote the chorus.”
Kirrilee tells the story through vulnerable lyricism with cinematic pop production, touching on moments of insecurity and loss. Happy was created as a love letter to artists carrying the weight of self-doubt, burnout, and creative exhaustion. Rather than focusing on dramatic endings, the song sits in the softer heartbreak of slowly losing something — or someone — that once meant everything to you.
“I wanted it to sound like the feeling of leaving someone or something you love behind.”
The release continues Kirrilee’s growing momentum within Australia’s pop scene. It follows her most successful singles to date, Janelle (2026) and The View (2025). Kirrilee’s recent work has received worldwide radio support, including airplay in Australia, the United States, The UK and more. Kirrilee has also received praise from a large number of presenters, and had the exciting opportunity to do a number of co-hosting segments with radio stations like 4EB’s Insomnia After Dark and Northwest FM’s It’s Matty Time.
As both an artist and designer, Kirrilee independently leads the visual and creative direction behind her releases, building immersive worlds that resonate deeply with young women, queer audiences, and emotionally driven pop listeners.
Happy will be available on all streaming platforms from the 29th of May.

Kirrilee makes pop music for the romantics, the over-thinkers, and the ones who feel everything all at once. It’s music that feels like that group chat got leaked; messy, honest, and way too relatable.
Kirrilee’s songwriting is described as “…heartfelt and personal storytelling that is beautifully conveyed through Kirrilee's delicate, enchanting vocals and harmonies..." - Caesar Live N’ Loud
Kirrilee’s latest singles Janelle (2026), When The Lights Go Out (2025), and The View (2025) mark the start of a bold new era. The View reached #2on theSubmitHub Popular Charts, earned national and international airplay, landed Kirrilee her first radio, podcast and magazine interviews and won her Listen to Local's Fab 15.
Her latest single, Janelle (2026), also led her to be named February's Local Queer Artist of the Month by 4EB's queer segment; Insomnia After Dark, had her co-hosting radio stations across Australia, debuted her in the USA and gave her a viral poster campaign across Melbourne, VIC.
Together, her recent releases have amassed tens of thousands of streams and been added to high rotation on multiple stations thanks to overwhelming listener support. These first two singles alone have quickly smashed through her records previously held by her debut EP, Dreaming and Other Dangerous Behaviour (2023).
